To fix this quickly (e.g. because a rare failure has occurred):

fusermount -zu ~/.gvfs
/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-fuse-daemon ~/.gvfs

If it keeps happening then finding and fixing the underlying problem is probably warranted.
