In case anyone was unclear on the extent to which data brokers are disclosing personal data without any form of accountability to the people in question, do have a look at Facebook's list of advertisers "who use a contact list added to Facebook".
The list can be found in Settings > Ads > Advertisers.
Needless to say, I've never even heard of many of these people and can only guess that the enormous number of US car dealers in the list is the result of my appearing on a list that's being widely promoted to those dealers, despite it being a long time since I've lived somewhere that car ownership/leasing made sense and my never having lived in the US. Kudos to Facebook for making this transparent.
